Our December Issue has the expected Christmas flavour as we get towards the 25th, but it isn’t winter everywhere and not every one is Christian, so we try to reflect that in our selection, too. Therefore, ‘in your stocking’ you will find some hope for the spring, a taste of summer from the southern hemisphere, and my special choice for the 24th December was written with nothing to do with Christmas Eve in mind. Poetry, as usual, crosses cultures and expresses universal truths.
We get a little spooky as we approach New Year. I don’t know whence came that tradition, but ‘the goth within’ couldn’t resist sharing everything Michael D. Turner knows about Vampires! Then, as we go into the New Year, The Hour Glass provides a wider perspective on time.
Our interview this month is with Lyndon Perry whose poem “Spring Finally” was much appreciated by our readers in September’s Issue.
I invited our slush readers put forward one poem each for the December edition. In memory of her mother, Kathleen chose the 5th Dec poem, “Seeds,” by Julie Broom. Amy’s choice was Brian Bohr’s, “The Close of the Door,” and Glen chose, “The Discovery,” by Christie Isler. It might be interesting for you to compare the tastes of our readers.
It is also my pleasure to announce that Kathleen has stepped up to the challenge of learning to edit as well as reading slush and has already been involved in some of the tasks that have to be done in order to produce EDP every month.
Don’t forget to send us your take on romance early enough for St. Valentine’s Day and Easter is early next year.
We offer Seasonal Greetings to you all and hope you enjoy our December Issue.
