GRAVITY • by Kristy Stops

Your eyes flicker towards an eccentric pedestrian,
but I watch you.
Read the fines lines forming around your eyes
like a simple answer to a complex question.

I call you gravity,
But you make me drop metaphors like yesterday’s news.

So I say you are like…..

But all I can think of is that thing you do with your eyebrows.
The night I met you,
well dressed and overheated.
The way you say “I love you”,
like you’re a pioneer of the process.
Then I try to quote love songs,
but all I hear
is your breath cycling endlessly
through the minutes I’ve filled with you.

Inhale
            Exhale
Inhale
            Exhale
Inhale

Until I’m lost in the rhythm of us.

Enjoyed this one – it brought me up short and made me think. Very arresting. And always good to see another Byron fan of course.

I loved those two lines – that contreast between down to earth and raised awareness is just magical to me and I adored the ending, as you know.

I love the structure of this piece! This really works on the page, but I would love to hear you read this aloud. Nice work.

Surprising and original – which is an achievement with a love poem. I very much enjoyed it.

From the first line right down to the very last, I was captured; captivated! Great poem! :-)
