Dampened pigment smeared on canvas
reveals rivers, vagabonds, and iris petals;
an image formed on the whiff of a dream.
The fragrant, sweaty, summer night
presses a thick, muffling quilt over
a rosebud mouth and riots of curly hair.
Ghosts of muses hiss and fizzle,
wrapping her in a deep cotton haze,
whispering in silence obscured by
trucks hauling bittersweet tunes
and half-smoked cigarettes.
Trickling stream, red water.
Tiger-tinted wings bear inspirations off
to the place where daydreams find a home
in the dust.

Shiny, Erin! I particularly liked “an image formed on the whiff of a dream.” Gave it a five.

My favourite line here was
“Ghosts of muses hiss and fizzle,”
That appealed to me when I first read this poem and it still does. Thank you, Erin.
