March Table of Contents

We Interrupt today’s special announcements to make an even

SPECIALLER ANNOUNCEMENT :)
To Nick and Mel Ozment a son. Nick tells us: Landon was born yesterday morning. He is 8 lbs 11 ozs and 21.5 inches long–a big little guy. He likes being held and is already spoiled: He’s the only baby in the O.B., he’s a hit with the nurses, and between them and us I think he’s hardly been put down.
Many Congratulations from all of us here at EDP.

Special Announcement

March, a month of endings and beginnings and this one for us, is more so than most. Nicholas Ozment, one of our founding Editor’s is leaving us today but we at EDP hope he will be back with us at some stage in the future. And his role as Editor does not end here, because Nick was instrumental in choosing poems for Anthology Two which is getting underway soon, (the first emails will go out in April) and in setting up the every day structures and running of this magazine. We thank you Nick and wish you and the family happiness and love.

And now: Da da-da-da da da DAH!

Second Special Announcement

Special Call for Submissions from Your Editors:

We were feeling the needed to blow apart our Every Day routine and, thus, How to Handle Explosives Week was created.

What do you do when life blows up in your face? Put it into a pithy verse or two and let us have a look.

We will choose seven winning entries to publish over the course of one week in July 2011. Each winning poet will also get to share their thoughts on what writing poetry means for them.

Come on, shatter our world. We need at least 50 entries to consider, so get busy.  And if you need to be further inspired, each of our Monday Inspirations throughout March will give you another perspective on this theme, just in case you need a nudge :)

Deadline is May 1, 2011. Don’t forget to check “targeted” on your submission and designate your piece as “explosives week entry”. Standard Every Day Poets submission guidelines still apply.

Now on to the poems for March.
Having spent so many years living and working in Wales, I am always delighted to receive a St David’s Day submission to give March the proper send off. Hapus Dewi Sant all you lovely Welsh from Jennifer Walmsley and from EDP and to be sure we wish you all a Happy St Patrick’s Day too but we didn’t get a special poem for that – a gentle reminder that poems for specific dates or certain seasons need to get to us well in advance.

But we would do well not to write Winter off just yet. She may have a few more surprises up her Santa-sleeve and the following few wintry poems are a gift I am certain you’ll enjoy. We hope to put you in the mood to be good to someone on Pancake Day in the company of AJ Smith. Bill West and Rick Hartwell take us into Spring proper and  to end the month we have three poems musing on the importance of making our mark on the world, which hark back nicely to “Paint Me A Poem” and “Test”. I hope you’ll all find something to move or amuse you.

hooray! I can blow up a poem instead of having my head explode! This request should have arrived on a little tape recorder that self-combusted as soon as it was played… “Good evening poets, your mission, should you choose to accept it ….”
