OHIO AUTUMN 2008 • by Steve Goble

Cold fire upon the trees
And woodsmoke heavy on the wind
The best of seasons by degrees
Has finally finished settling in

It warns of frozen days to come
But I will let those worries wait
For now there’s cider on my tongue
And vibrant woods to contemplate

Steve Goble writes fantasy, horror and science fiction, plus some poetry. His work has appeared in numerous venues, and one of his stories was an honorable mention in “The Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror 2008″ edited by Ellen Datlow, Kelly Link and Gavin J. Grant.

Oh, very lovely, Steve. Beautiful picture of Autumn – my favorite time, too. It sounds a little Robert-Frostish to me.

Living in Houston, I can easily imagine the season you have painted with your words. Nice.

    Thanks, all.

Robin: Yeah, I guess it is a little Robert Frost-ish, although Frost would have made something far more deep and artful out of the same material. I’m a Frost fan.
