PAINT ME A POEM • by Kaolin Imago Fire

Paint me a picture with countable stanzas,
colors that rhyme: directly and slant;
paint me a plot that defies its own meaning,
a pattern of time that collapses intent.

Paint me the lines that twist their own language,
the form a bit playful, but in essence profound;
paint me a picture that explains its own being,
then takes that same being, and twists it around.

Paint me a poem that’s naked when clothed,
with innocent yang and experienced yin—
make it sing loudly the chords of the soul
and paint it again. And again. And again.

    Nice piece of metapoetry. “Colors that rhyme”, “Paint me a poem that’s naked when clothed”, great thoughts.

    A good imaginitive description of good painting, except of course, the nomenclature of painting is different from the nomenclature of poetry. What’s really hard is to write a poem that dances all over the space page. They tried it with concrete poetry, but it’s dull imagery which doesn’t work so well as image or poetry per se. For those not familiar with such painting, medieval illuminations might interest you.

    Nicely captures some of what we hope for from poetry, or any form of art, for that matter.

    I cannot recall enjoying a poem more than I did this one. It was one of the varieties that made me say to myself… Damn, I wish I would have written something like this, what a great theme and idea, and how beautifully expressed.
    Yes you are a Fire and one of the better ones here on EDP. Several months ago for weeks on end all of the poems posted here were not at all enjoyable to me. Now for the past ten or fifteen days the poems have been amazingly beautiful and entertaining.
    Nomenclature?…smoemencalture, I made my living as a classical musician for 50 years and I can tell you that all art is born from the same mother and there is no hind tit in art and creative genius. There is poetry inside a painting and music inside of paint drops. This is beautiful I cannot thank you enough for it. Well done, your fires are burning bright, keep up the good work. Art
