SEASONS GREETINGS • by Tina Cole

The long lane crosses waste land, joining
country to town in uneven seams. Alongside
derelict factories abandoned cars and old sofas
wait to be occupied as weeds unravel life’s stitches.
Today an infinite grey lies across the flat, barren
fields. A threadbare pelt of Winter has descended
on the distant copse and pink brown birches
where silent birds are sheltering.

Lately, there have been new signs; a growing stillness,
a sudden expansiveness, subtle changes in the pallet
of light and colour; a faint breath of seasonal goodwill.

It is travelling the world in words and wishes like spores;
such thoughts, the stitches that seam us together.

    Oh, Biscuit Lady; I’m very glad you were at the station when this particular bus arrived. Well done.

    The richness of the language takes me into that threadbare winter scene with its spores of good wishes and I just love it. Thank you for sending this to EDP.

    Beautiful, Tina. It reads just beautifully, as Oonah says with such rich language.
    “the stitches that seam us together.” Lovely!

    I’d take an outbreak of goodwill over flu any day ;)
