Sun bleached, wind torn
and staked in the soil,
a vision of pale blue promises
to be left unfulfilled.
A packet full of dreams
in an untidy drawer;
Forget-me-nots, of course;
her favourite flowers.
Each precious seed sown
with frail and trembling hands,
weathered by seasons spent
planting hopes for the future.
His failing eyes shall not behold
cerulean drifts in full bloom.
threadbare gardening gloves now laid to rest
for the final time.

Well written with a tender pathos enlivening the reader to deepened emotional awareness that dreams and plans for both must include considerations of negative possibilities and not count on a beloved always being there in co-fulfillment. Succinctly and effectively written.

“Cerulean drifts in full bloom” is the line that lingers, for me, but even before I got there, I was tingling, simpatico with the genuine love riding on the words in this poem. Lovely!
