I loved the imagery of the poem and didn’t think it was cliche at all.

Why search for some new image when this is the one that touched the poet?

I found this poem awkward.

Even the first line was rolling off the tongue like a log. As an example:

“Moonlit glimmers caress the water’s surface”

“Moonlight glimmers, caressing the water’s surface”

would have been much better.

A little clichéd for my taste. Perhaps you can search for images that haven’t already been used too many times.
