Last night we argued.
It was easier than love;
the verbal stones we threw
to cover up the hurt.
This morning bruises speak
a silent note of grief,
the slightest avalanche
pleads for a second chance.
We drink our coffee black
in the kitchen by the fan,
rearrange the fallen rock
from the anticipated blast.
The bubbles in the sink
hide what’s broken underneath,
ceramic clay and glass
damaged in the aftermath.

I like the many ways this can be read, the different roads my head takes me down (don’t throw stone at glass houses, the hurt of words, the brittle veneer of relationship). Good stuff. Peace…

Little four old children who do not know how to channel their anger should not drink black coffee. The surprise of this poem is that the parent seems to be throwing things too. Babies should be restricted to throwing their peas on the floor and spitting out their cereal. But I know this poem by Angel Zapata (who I have admired) is tongue in cheek because babies don’t write admirable poetry.

I enjoyed this one, the metaphor is consistent throughout, and effectively handled.

Great poem, Angel.
@Roberta: you’ve lost me with “Little four old children.”
