When the pods of a silk cotton tree explode
And tufts cascade like soft shimmering boats
Who chases the fluffs with a laugh?
Say who does? Who does?
The child does
When black clouds rise like plump ravens
Amass together and feather down as rain
Who raises a fountain of dance?
Say who does? Who does?
The child does
When between blades of new green grass
Dew glistens like globes of fairy glass
Who sees the rainbow in the crystal?
Say who does? Who does?
The child does
When from that arboreal nacre on a tree
A Monarch butterfly struggles to be free
Who hears the chrysalis shaking?
Say who does? Who does?
The child does
When slanting deep into pools of icy water
The warm rays of a winter’s sun quiver
Who feels the chill in his marrow?
Say who does? Who does?
The child does
Oh! There are miracles for those who stand in wonder
Of a world that ever unfurls and blossoms yonder
You could become that child, just once
Oh, believe you could. Just that once
And do as the child does!

The shape of this reminded me of one of those champagne fountains – in this case the fountain of youth, maybe. Such joyous innocence! Thank you Rumjhum.

Thank you all. I love this poem too. Recently I had a solo poetry reading hosted by The Prakriti Foundation (founded by Ranvir Shah and VR Devika)Chennai, and I read this poem among others. There were a couple of children there and one of them repeated the last two lines of the stanzas after me everytime! Her joy at the poem was so infectious, it made my day!
And Oonah, thank goodness you explained that. I tried to leave a comment – actually a big thqank you to Jason for this awesome poem, The Cross – and couldn’t. So everybody who passes by my poem, please flip back to Jason’s poem and feel free to thank him here like Oonah and me!

Lovely images and sounds. A real celebration of joy, or/and the joy of celebration!
