WHO GAINED? • by Rumjhum Biswas

Who gained in this battle of pride?
Did you? Did I?

One hangs from a length
of rope, but the other
will hang forever
on life.

In one pain comes
like a preternatural beast
In the other hot words howl
for the moon.

So who won in this war of spite?
Did you? Did I?

Death by hanging.
Hung by life.
Happiness. Peace.
Two refugees.

Rumjhum Biswas advises writerly women to marry practical men. Someone has to pay the bills while you dream and scribble! It was also her practical man’s idea that she should have a little place to her self in the big bad WWW, so here’s her blog:
http://rumjhumkbiswas@wordpress.com. There’s also a website – http://www.rumjhumbiswas.com - which hasn’t been updated for…Oh never mind!

RumJhum – your blog didn’t open, but your website did! I subscribe to Tin Pan Alley. Keep practical, keep your artist’s vision.

What was the above war about?

I very much admire every piece of yours I have read, this one included.

Most likely your blog isn’t opening because of the WordPress hack attack, which I hope is resolved soon.

Good grief! I have been off wordpress and a whole lot of other things because I’m busy house hunting. Had no idea about the wordpress hacking. This is scary.

A warm thank you folks for reading and your kind words.

The war was from a newspaper report – a couple had quarreled, the wife hung herself and the husband went mad with grief. A lot of my poems and stories come from real life news that I either read or watch on news channels.

Sharon – I hope WordPress doesn’t decide to hack this magazine.

rumjhum – Thank you for your answer. You are lucky to have reportage of “real news.” Mine seems to concentrate on school scores, and sports only. I read poetry like yours to find out what the world is really like. I guess your poem is a warning to guard one’s tongue, but –there I go again. I wish the newspapers would report dabating team scores, I would take some interest. People should learn how to argue.

I agree. People should be taught critical thinking and all aspects thereof – but all governments and religious organisations abhor that and block it wherever possible and tick boxes. Why? THINK ABOUT IT!

I meant of course “debating team” scores.
