An homage
to William Shakespeare
Twist the copper coils so;
In the silk Armani throw–
Toad, that under Elvis’ stone,
(Days and nights hast thirty-one)
sweat’d venom in its nap,
gives this brew the proper snap.
Double, double, toil and trouble;
fire burn and sour mash bubble.
Laser disks that play karaoke,
fuel the fire, hot and smoky.
Fig of Newton, tail of rat,
crumpled paper party hat.
Withered claws from things that bite.
Shredded tux with shirt once white.
Chop them up and grind them fine;
twist them through a conga line.
Double, double, toil and trouble;
fire burn and sour mash bubble.
Graveyard dirt and spider legs,
lukewarm beer from pony kegs.
Goat’s horn, popcorn, new shorn tresses,
ripped up, low-cut party dresses.
Eyeballs, Pall Malls, fur of lemming.
Wedding cake with all the trimming.
Drops of blood from three young maids.
Sweepings from thirteen parades.
Brew six hours o’er medium heat,
add some sugar, so it’s sweet.
Strain it. Drain it once it’s mellowed,
through a cheesecloth, aged and yellowed.
Store it. Pour it ’neath the stars,
into virgin mason jars.
Double, double, toil and trouble;
fire burn and sour mash bubble.
Drink six ounces over ice;
Mixed with Coke, it tastes so nice!

I hope you all have as much fun reading Witches’ Brew as I had writing it. Oonah, Connie and Nick were nice enough to center the poem for me. If you look at the outline (you may have to squint a little), you’ll see the shape of a stoppered bottle.

Great fun, KC! Wonderful tongue-in-cheek piece

The shape of this poem is such fun, K C
and if anyone can’t get the ingredients in time to make this for Christmas, Scrumpy Jack has much the same effect – not that I’d know, you understand, Nick told me!

Scumpy Jack, huh?
This side of the pond, we call that hard cider. Apples are a popular crop across most of the northern states and fresh-squeezed sweet cider is a popular drink in the autumn. It’s only after it’s fermented a time, after it’s turned hard, that we get something the like of Scumpy Jack.

This is lots of fun, but highly sophisticated – sofistikaytit (last ‘t’ is silent) as we say in Scotland!!
