In younger years their
needs were cool
Not yet ripe to want
the Fruit
But older now the boys
are wise
To lusting of things
in and outside
Belly to belly
one for woman
lusts
Cock to cock
the other for man
desires
This the reason why
the lover
of fine women
fights his brother
with tooth, nail
and
separating blade
in seeking freedom
from his brother’s
downward groping
hands

Growing up is a good idea. Good rhythm except in the line, “the other for man;” Wouldn’t a line like, “the other man desires” do?

No, because he isn’t speaking of desire.
Good work. Four stars.

Read it to quickly the first time and slipped into the same mistake Roberta made. Thanks to fishlovesca, I read it again and saw the second comment was right. Good poem, especially in that it says a lot in very few words and has a nice symmetry.

I think I understood this poem almost immediately because I had read the Rossner book Attachments. I personally find explorations of attachments interesting.

Is it an ilLUSTRation of the difference between lust and desire? Anyway, it’s a good illustration of the need to grow up.
